Carroll, Henderson make first career transfers side-by-side

Corbin Carroll (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Gunner Henderson (Baltimore Orioles) earned their first career Player of the Week honors.

MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, announced the players of the week on Wednesday.

Carroll batted .500 (11-for-22) with three home runs, eight RBIs, nine runs scored, a 1.091 OPS and a .542 slugging percentage last week.

On Aug. 8, he tied his career high for hits in a single game with four against the Washington Nationals. The next day against the Detroit Tigers, he continued his hot bat with three hits, including two home runs.

Carroll played just 32 games in the big leagues last year. Arizona rewarded him with an eight-year, $110 million extension ahead of this season.

Carroll’s upside was deemed high enough for Arizona to open its wallet, which is notoriously stingy when it comes to investments.

As the team hoped, Carroll has quickly established himself as a key contributor, batting .308 with 13 home runs, 33 RBI, 47 runs scored and 19 stolen bases in 62 games this season.

In the American League, Henderson was named Player of the Week.

Henderson batted .526 (10-for-19) with three home runs, six RBIs, five runs scored, a 1.053 OPS and a .550 slugging percentage last week.

He had a hit in each of his five games last week, including a multi-hit performance in a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on April 10-12.
