Japanese pitcher Darvish Yu (37), who has been sharing a pot of rice with Kim Ha-seong in San Diego, is out for the season due to injury.

Darvish appeared in front of the media before the ‘2023 Major League Baseball’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on the 13th (KST), and revealed that he will not be able to play the rest of the season.

Previously, Darvish appeared in a game against Milwaukee on May 26 (giving up five runs in four innings) and was placed on the disabled list three days later on May 29. The cause was an elbow injury.

Speaking to the media, Darvish said, “After the injury, I dedicated myself to treatment, including receiving injections to control the inflammation, but the pain continued. “The team is not performing well this season and I feel responsible for that,” said Darvish, who decided not to throw in the remaining games of the season as per the medical team’s decision.

Darvish is a high-profile pitcher with a history of elbow injuries. In 2015, while with Texas, he underwent Tommy John surgery to repair ligament reconstruction in his elbow and missed an entire season, and in 2018, while with the Chicago Cubs, he underwent arthroscopic surgery.

This halted his quest to become the all-time wins leader for the Orioles.

Darvish, who was drafted in 2012, is in his 11th year in the big leagues this season and has posted double-digit wins five times. This season, in particular, he was closing in on becoming the all-time Asian wins leader by reaching 100 career wins.

The pitcher with the most wins in the major leagues among Asian pitchers is Chan-ho Park, the “Korean Express. In his 17-year big league career, Park has amassed 124 wins and holds the record for most innings pitched with 1993 innings, seven short of 2000.

Hideo Nomo is second on the list with 123 wins, followed by Darvish in third place with 103. Darvish is also in his late 30s, so it’s unclear if he’ll be able to close the gap on Chan Ho.

The “Korean Monster” Ryu Hyun-jin is currently fifth on the all-time wins list for Asians with 78 wins. He has been pitching well since his comeback this season, and with two more wins, he could overtake Hiroki Kuroda, who has 79.메이저놀이터

Meanwhile, Darvish, who is considered the greatest Japanese pitcher of all time, signed a massive six-year, $56 million contract with Texas in 2012 and hit the jackpot with the Chicago Cubs for six years and $126 million in 2018 when he was eligible for free agency.

After moving to San Diego, Darvish had a breakout year last year, going 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA, and the team opted out of his old contract, giving him a six-year, $108 million gift that will keep him in the game through 2028.
