Golf population exceeds 11 million… Averaged $26,000 per month

The domestic golf population has exceeded 11 million.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Korea Golf Association in cooperation with the Golf Industry Research Institute of Kyunghee University, the domestic golf population was approximately 11.76 million adults aged 20 or older. This is an increase of 16.4% compared to 2017. Converting this into a percentage, 31.5%, or one in three, enjoys golf. As for golf experience, 3-5 years was the highest at 38.6%, followed by 1-2 years at 28.1%.

The lowest 5% of respondents identified themselves as single players with an average score of less than 80. The percentages that responded that they were at the 80’s and 90’s were 16.4% and 27.4%, respectively. 18.6% of golfers in the 100th grade, so-called ‘100th grade’, and 5% of amateurs in the 110th grade. The highest rate of 27.6% said they scored 120 or more strokes.

As for places to enjoy golf, indoor screens recorded the highest response rate at 65.4%. This was followed by 48.1% of indoor driving ranges, 41.1% of golf courses, and 34.7% of outdoor driving ranges (duplicate responses possible). The proportion of golf course members and non-members was 38.9% and 61.1%, respectively. 스포츠토토

As of 2021, the average monthly cost per person (excluding equipment costs) spent to enjoy golf was about 260,000 won. The average expenditure by type is 575,000 won for a golf course, 240,000 won for an indoor driving range, 239,000 won for an outdoor driving range, and 189,000 won for an indoor screen. The Korea Golf Association explained, “Based on the frequency of use, indoor screens have been continuously increasing since 2007, while outdoor golf courses are showing a decreasing trend.”

Meanwhile, the ‘potential golf population’ who are willing to learn golf in the future was surveyed at 32.8%, a 5% increase from 2017. Males in their 30s (68.5%) and 40s (66.2%), and females in their 20s (61.8%) and 40s (58.8%) showed a high willingness to learn golf.

The survey was conducted with 4,512 adult men and women over the age of 20 in 17 cities and provinces nationwide. At the 95% confidence level, the sampling error is ±1.45%. The Korea Golf Association plans to publish a Korean golf index booklet based on this data.
