Rich Hill to San Diego with Choi ‘a waste of money’, finally cleared waivers…will stay unless claimed by another team
The San Diego Padres wasted money.
Veteran pitcher Rich Hill, who was traded to the San Diego Padres from the Pittsburgh Pirates along with Ji-Man Choi, has been claimed off waivers.메이저놀이터
San Diego placed the left-hander on waivers on Wednesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported. If no other team claims him, Hill will remain in San Diego.
The team that picks him up will only have to pay him $817,000 of his $8 million salary this year.
Hill, 43, hasn’t performed as well as expected in San Diego. In seven appearances, he posted a 9.27 ERA and allowed 23 runs in 22 1/3 innings. That was much worse than his 4.76 ERA in Pittsburgh. Hill had a below-average strikeout rate of 19.6% compared to a slightly above-average walk rate of 8.9%.
In his career since 2005, Hill has pitched 1400 1/3 innings in 379 games with a 4.01 ERA, 89-73 record, 23.9% strikeout rate, and 9.1% walk rate.
I’m curious to see if any teams will pick up Hill for the next three weeks.
Meanwhile, Choi has recovered from his injury and is pitching rehab games for a Triple-A team in the minors.
