Seo Jianchang trade already 2 years…LG can’t keep hurting, ‘endless drive’ to presidency

It’s been two years since the Seo trade.

On July 27, 2021, LG acquired Seo from Kiwoom in a one-for-one trade for Chung Chan-heon. It was a crucial move for LG to win the Korean Series, as they were always struggling at second base. Two years later, the trade remains one of the worst in LG’s history.

Seo had the full support of his predecessor and manager Yeom Kyung-yup, but he has yet to turn it around. Chung Chan-heon, on the other hand, was a top five starter for Kiwoom in the first half of the year. This trade is slowly tilting in Kiwoom’s favor. And LG is slowly showing signs of solving its second base woes this year.

Around the bases, Shin Min-jae got his chance. He started out as a pinch-hitter, but his “swing line is fine” according to manager Yoon Kyung-yup. After Seo Gun-chang was sent down and Kim Min-sung was called up, Shin seized the opportunity.

In 66 games in the first half of the season, Shin went 33-for-96 with a .344 batting average, seven doubles, 24 RBIs, a .354 on-base percentage, a .400 OPS, a .754 slugging percentage, and a .375 OPS. It was more than expected. With his mobility and accuracy, the No. 9 hitter could solve the second base woes.

So LG needs a player to fill the role of Shin Min-jae. They found that player in NC. Choi Seung-min (27) is a right-handed hitting outfielder who joined NC as a developmental player in 2015. He played 116 games in the first team, but had no place in Kang Myung-hwon’s system this year. NC also has plenty of outfield depth.

LG noted Choi’s speed and ability to run the bases. It’s clear that he’ll stay in his natural role. In a one-run postseason, a pinch-hitter is essential. Yeom Kyung-yeop always kept one of these specialists in the first team when he was the head coach of Kiwoom and SK.

This trade, like the Seo Ji-chang deal two years ago, was done on the break. Back then, it was during the COVID-19 season shutdown. The similarity is that the trade deadline is right around the corner. In terms of the weight of the trade, it doesn’t compare to those trades. It’s not a major trade.온라인바카라

But for LG, at least, this trade is no less important than it was two years ago. Maybe it’s even more significant in terms of plugging holes and improving team chemistry. If you try to make a trade, you may or may not succeed. But if you don’t even try, you’ll never succeed. LG has quietly made another big move.
