Supporters of the late Yoo Sang-cheol paid tribute to his family team, Yokohama, on the second anniversary of his passing.

Yokohama defeated Kashiwa Reysol 3-1 on Tuesday in the 17th round of the J-League 2023 at Yokohama Nissan Stadium. With 36 points, Yokohama (11 W, 3 D, 3 L) leads the league.

The past seven days have been the second anniversary of the passing of the late coach Yoo Sang-chul. Yoo, who played a key role in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup quarterfinals, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2019 and passed away on June 7, 2021.메이저사이트

The Yokohama club showed a video tribute to Yoo at the Kashiwa game. A Yokohama supporter wore Yoo’s No. 8 jersey and hung a hanger that read, “We will carry on the spirit of never giving up! Together with Yoo Sang-chul…”.

Yokohama supporters also commemorated the first anniversary of Yoo’s passing in June last year, and have continued to organize events to honor his memory.

Although Yoo has passed away, his legacy lives on. Lee Kang-in, whose talent was recognized and coached by Yoo in “Run and Shoot,” has gone on to become the next ace of the national team. Lee scored six goals and provided six assists last season and is being linked with a move to a big club.

Seol Young-woo, whom Yoo coached at Ulsan, also won the 2021 Young Player Award and went on to become a national team member.
