It was the first victory in 11 tournaments for Varner III, who has one win on the European Tour (now DP World Tour) and won the Asian Tour’s PIF Saudi International in February last year, where the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund is the title sponsor.

Varner III teamed up with Bubba Watson (USA) to share third place in the team competition, earning $125,000, 25 per cent of the third place prize money.

Sitting in second place, one stroke behind leader Mito Pereira (Chile) after two rounds, Varner III came from behind to claim his first LIV victory.

Pereira dropped one shot in the final round to finish third (10-under par 206).

Kevin I was eighth (7-under 209), Bryson DeChambeau was 10th (6-under 210) and Brooks Koepka (USA), who recorded his first major victory as a LIV player at the PGA Championship last week, was 14th (5-under 211).
